Year in Review: 2012

What an amazing year 2012 has been! I've met some incredible people, seen some awe inspiring places and learned more than I ever could've imagined. I feel blessed to have had the amazing opportunities I've had this year: from the Tetons, to Zion, to Canada and everywhere in between. So many of you inspire me to be better, to keep creating and to keep exploring, and for that I am so grateful. Thank you. Here's a video to wrap up 2012 and bring in the new year. Enjoy.

Land Around the Corner

Hilltop View of  Caineville, Utah

Civil twilight had just begun. I crawled out of the bed of the truck, grabbed my gear and headed into the wide open space. What looked like attainable buttes at first, seemed endless once on foot.

"Just over the next hill" I kept thinking to myself. "I just want to see what's over the next hill."

I was finally out of sight of the truck. The air was warm and still, and the sun slowly raised to wash over the desert barren land. I wondered how much further I could go before my fellow adventurer woke up and started to worry.

"Just a peak over the next hill" I thought again, and I ventured off to see what else lay in the "land around the corner".

Exploration is just as important an element to landscape photography as your tripod. Getting "lost" in the landscape or in nature can bring out images you never even thought were out there. Explore, get lost, and keep going around that last corner. Happy weekend everybody! Oh, and happy birthday Mom!

Location: Caineville, Utah

Boy, has it been a busy couple of months! I've finally made some edits from my latest trip down south, to Caineville, Goblin Valley and Torrey, Utah. This was all new territory for me, so I did my best to take it all in. I had seen photographs of the buttes in Caineville, Utah (thank you Adam Barker) and have wanted to photograph the place ever since. I was hoping for the spring wildflowers, but with the dry winter, it was not to be. Regardless, the buttes in Caineville did not disappoint. The light on the hills, from shadow to full sun, created depth and contrast that would entice any photographer. Lines that off-road vehicles have left on the Mars-like landscape lead the eye to distant buttes and layers of mystical formations. Despite the lack of wildflowers, the early morning light and array of grey hues made for some interesting photographs. This is a place I will definitely come back to. If not only to photograph, but to do some off-roading as well!

P.S. I'm working on my website and it should be up and running within a week. I'm working on a whole new look that I'm pretty excited about it.
